Feeling Festive in and Around Davis

Summer is well on its way, meaning plenty of sunshine, warm weather, and festivals of the “awesome” variety. Two happenings are nearby in Davis, which means there's no need to travel halfway across the state to experience a proper California welcome to summer if you’re a resident of Willow Creek. On top of that, in May, nearby Sacramento is home to one of the state's best musical blow-outs. Here are just a few of the upcoming events that will be taking place near your Willow Creek home.

Whole Earth Festival, May 12-14
There's a decidedly laid-back vibe to this Davis festival, which promotes "activism, wellness, and environmental sustainability." Certainly, they've got it all down to a “t,” seeing as the Whole Earth Festival dates back to 1969. Scheduled on Mother's Day weekend, this family-friendly festival will feature over 70 performers, including musicians, dancers, jugglers, storytellers, and puppeteers, coming together to make their version of an artistic wonderland. Attendees are invited to bring along drums and get stuck into the action. Another cool thing: you can participate in creative workshops and make your own eco-friendly souvenirs to remind you of the great weekend. Oh, and there's some seriously good food, too, from a host of local vendors. Organizers encourage festival-goers to come by bike, but seeing how close your home is, you can just walk!

Sacramento Music Festival, May 26-29
As the Willow Creek homes are on the periphery of Sacramento, it'd be crazy not to take the short hop into the city for the Sacramento Music Festival. For four beautiful days, Old Sac comes alive with music. The phrase “something for everyone” may be well-worn, but at this festival, it really does apply; the music genres include big bands, swing, Cajun, ragtime, Latin, country, and more. Performances take place aboard riverboats, in pizza restaurants, and even in a parking lot beneath Interstate 5!  Turntable on the Green, meanwhile, forms the main hub, where up to 3,500 dancers get their groove on in one place. We're particularly thrilled about seeing Louis Prima Jr., Cornet Chop Suey, the Allen Vega Band, and Queen Nation. Buy an all-events badge to make the most of it.

Davis Music Fest, June 16-18
You'll probably be able to hear the sweet music from the window of your home in Davis. Might as well join the festival then—and what a festival it's set to be. Things get under way in style on the Friday night with Rin Tin Tiger and Element Brass Band, before Alec Lytle and Them Rounders bring a touch of contemporary country to the proceedings on Saturday. Other performances on the bill for this year's Davis Music Fest include the dulcet tones of Misner & Smith, brass-drenched anthems from Kuckaw!, and dirge-like synth pop from youngsters Ghostplay. Music venues, restaurants, and bars around town are joining in, so make sure you stay near home this June weekend and see Davis at its finest.
